Palm Bay Bassmasters 1/23/2010
Lake Poinsett
It was the Dawn of the Dead as the sun rose over Lake Poinsett. Seeing all the dead Tilapia and Plecostomus everywhere explained the rancid aroma that overloaded our olfactory receptors. Other than the smell and the rotting corpses everywhere the day was not too bad. I had a hard time personally with the smell so I ran to a secluded canal with strong running water and a good breeze but that didn't help me land any Bass. Low water levels and the dead fish cleaned the paint off our lower units but no major damage was reported and no one needed to be towed out or take their shoes off. The club weighed-in twenty-six bass and only one angler had a limit of five.
First place angler is Terry "El Terro" Walker of West Melbourne. He had a limit of five bass weighing a total of 14.43 pounds. Terry also receives Big Bass Honors with a nice 4.53 pounder that gulped up his junebug Zoom speed worm. He ran to the western shoreline for his nice bag o' bass. Great Job El Terro !
Second place goes to B.J. Biles of Palm Bay. He was fishing the southwest end of Poinsett to haul in four nice bass weighing a total of 12.33 pounds. B.J. was using his go to blue fluke and switched to a watermelon-red fluke to hook up with a couple of keepers. He finished his day throwing a junebug Culprit worm. His best bass was a 4.47 pound hawg. Nice!
Third place angler is John Kinchen of Palm Bay. John ran to the residential canals on the south end of the lake and pulled in three nice lunkers weighing a total of 7.94 pounds. He used a black and silver Bango lure. Sweet !
Team Place
First - Terry Walker and New member Scott Timney - 17.05 pounds
Second - John Kinchen and Mike Mulligan - 14.57 pounds
Third - B.J. Biles (Solo) - 12.33 pounds
The Craver Builders small creel award goes to Kyle Brink. Kyle caught a real nice basszilla late in the day weighing a scale dropping 0.95 pounds! Woo Hoo !
We welcome two new members to our club, both non-boaters, Ed Medbery and Scott Timney, Welcome to the Palm Bay Bassmasters !
Thank you all for another great tournament, minus the smell and gore. No one was hurt and no boats received nothing a can of spray paint won't fix, Tour.D./Donnie G.
